Originally established in1983, the Birdtail Country Museum consists of two buildings situated side by side at 738 Main Street in Birtle. Map
The main building on the right, is a former Union Bank, and a municipally designated historic site.
The upper level of the bank is fully furnished to resemble the manager’s residence from the early 1900s. On the main floor you will find displays of local history of the area.
The museum houses over 5000 artifacts including a variety of household items, military, archaeological and Indigenous artifacts. There are new feature displays each year.
Open July and August, Monday to Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment between May and September.
Guided tours are available upon request. Please contact us to arrange a tour.
The museum also has a collection of old photographs and a microfilm reader to view editions of the Birtle Observer from 1884 to 1889, and then the Birtle Eye-Witness beginning in 1891.
